Why Defragment? Why defragment? Well there are two good reasons. First it will save you time, when all the data is stored closer together on the disk, it will take less time to find and load each piece. Thinking about the tools in my garage that I have stored wherever they last were used, it works the same way. The more spread out or defragmented they are the longer each project takes me and more defragmented the tools continue to get. On the other hand after I defragment (my wife calls this cleaning) my garage, my projects start and finish much faster. The second good reason to defragment is money. Yes, money! The hard drive on your computer has many moving parts. The more they move to find files and pieces of data, the more worn they become. Chasing defragmented files causes thousands of needless revolutions of drive each time a file is loaded or saved. Again this is much the same as my garage. The more I hunt for tools the more tired and worn out I become. I also use a lot fewer expletives if my 1/2 socket is with the ratchet. |
