How to Defragment
Defragmenting is an easy operation. Several utility programs such as McAfee and Norton have built in defragmenters. Windows also has a defragmenter program which is really what the others use with a different screen. My preference is the windows defragmenter. It is also free since you already have it with Windows How to use the Windows defragmenter: This is really a very simple operation ( much easier then cleaning the garage). On the lower menu bar click start and then the run icon. A small window will appear, In the box that says "open" just type the word defrag It will take a few seconds, but windows will start the defragmenter. You will be prompted to tell it the drive you would like to defragment, Choose your hard drive (usually C:). then click okay Defragmenting will start and you will see a window that shows status and has options to pause, exit or show details. Although you can continue to use windows while defragging, it does slow your computer down considerably. I would recommend clicking on show details button and just watching the graphic of the blocks being rearranged. While on the show details screen you can also click show legend which will give you a good idea of what each blocks status is. Sit back and relax, or you could clean the garage. |
