Are "Cookies" helpful? There are many useful “cookies” that you will get while
surfing the Internet. Some of these will save passwords or create personal
environments to match the preferences you have chosen while visiting a page.
Examples of these would be a My Yahoo home page or a news preference setting on
MSNBC, This type of “cookie” provides us with a custom look and feel to the
Internet, which improves our experience.
“Cookies“ can also be used to track the status of Internet
transactions such as items placed in a shopping cart. In this way if you would
loose your connection you may be able to return to the site and continue without
re-shopping for all those items. For some people like myself, this is helpful
for others shopping is a fun experience and they would like to repeat it. Just like with the real cookies though, some are flavorless and full of useless calories. These are the ones that are using the information to track your activity on their website or building information for future marketing. It is also possible for web pages to look for cookies from other sites to see where you have been. Some people consider this an invasion of privacy. Others consider it to have some value in assisting web designers and marketers to make web pages and products friendlier. |
